Gennaro Esposito

Born in Vico Equense in 1970, Gennaro Esposito grew up in a family with a deep passion for traditional cooking. His mother and grandfather farmed land as sharecroppers, and it was alongside them that he learned to use local produce in the kitchen. His uncle, a pastry chef, inspired a love for the craft that would stay with him throughout his life.
His training was shaped by two extraordinary mentors: Gianfranco Vissani, who revealed the power of creativity, and Alain Ducasse, who took him to France and taught him the importance of discipline in the kitchen, flawless organisation and meticulous attention to detail.

A period of remarkable success followed, bringing the restaurant its first Michelin star in 2001. In 2003, it received Three Forks from Gambero Rosso, followed by a second Michelin star in 2008.
In 2011, Identità Golose named him Best Italian Chef, and in 2020, Michelin honoured him with its Chef Mentor Award, recognising his role as a guide and inspiration for young chefs.
In 2003, Gennaro Esposito’s vision gave rise to Festa a Vico, a culinary festival bringing together established chefs and rising talents for three days of shared experiences, fine food and solidarity. Each year, the event supports local associations and non-profit organisations working for important causes.
Roots are never cut, they grow further.
After more than thirty years in Vico Equense, Gennaro Esposito chooses Bellevue Syrene in Sorrento to begin a new chapter in his journey. A historic setting overlooking the sea, where he brings his experience and culinary vision, continuing the exploration that has always shaped his story.
